Going Green

Going Green at the Music City Festival & BBQ Championship

Over the last two years, the Music City Festival & BBQ Championship  made a concerted effort of “Going Green” and reducing our  environmental footprint.  For the 3rd year we are partnering with Dian Vaughn of Green Events to help us identify all areas where we can be Green.

Through our partnership with the Nashville Tree Foundation we have off-set the carbon emission generated by our festival by planting trees in Riverfront Park.  Additional areas we target include:

  • Purchasing “environmentally friendly” items such as event signage, banners and supplies;
  • Utilizing electric carts to move people and supplies;
  • Diverting landfill waste by placing recycling receptacles around the venue; and,
  • Promoting Eco-Friendly education in our Kids Zone arena.

Our past efforts have resulted in the following:

2010

  • Collected 22.25 cubic yards (5,740 gallons) of plastic containers and cans and 10.50 cubic yards of cardboard.
  • Avoided approx. 4,004 lbs of CO2 from being released into the air; equivalent to driving a car 4,084 miles.
  • Saved 30,860 kilowatts of energy; equivalent to running a desktop computer 11,330 hrs.
  • Diverted 32.75 cubic yards of waste from the landfill.
  • Avoided harvesting 21.5 virgin trees from forests for paper

2009

  • Avoided approx. 1,516 lbs of CO2 from being released into the air; equivalent to driving a car 1,546.84 miles.
  • Saved 14,052.73 kilowatts of energy; equivalent to running a desktop computer 5,204.71 hrs
  • Diverted 17 cubic yards of waste from the landfill
